When customers buy gas directly from
North Shore Gas, they are purchasing a "bundled
sales service." The cost of gas and transporting supplies are combined into one retail
price.
Choice programs "unbundle" traditional utility service, allowing customers to buy
gas from gas suppliers while still relying on
North Shore Gas to deliver supplies to their
premises. Typically, the customer works with a third-party energy marketer, who
contracts to provide a certain quantity of gas for delivery over a certain period
of time. You can generally count on a marketer/supplier to:
- Purchase gas on your behalf
- Arrange transportation, storage and delivery
- Assist with load balancing during usage peaks and valleys and avoid penalties
by trading on the spot market
- Audit and reconcile your natural gas bills and review your contracts with
utilities
